Lock Replacement in Haifa

Moved into a new flat, lost your keys, or had a break-in? In all three cases the answer is the same: change the lock. We do it at your door across Haifa and the Krayot — usually in 30–60 minutes, with the new cylinder in the van.

When you should change a lock

• Moving into a new home. The single most important case. You have no idea how many copies of that key exist — the previous tenant, their relatives, a cleaner, a builder. Changing the cylinder on day one costs little and settles the question.
• Keys lost or stolen. Especially if anything with your address was in the same bag.
• After a break-in or an attempt. Even a failed attempt usually leaves the cylinder damaged inside.
• The key turns hard or sticks. A lock rarely fails suddenly — it warns you for weeks first. Do not wait for it to jam with you outside.
• After a separation or a flatmate moving out. A simple, quiet way to close the subject.
• An old, low-grade cylinder. Cheap cylinders are opened by bumping in seconds. A modern anti-bump, anti-drill cylinder is a genuine upgrade.

Cylinder or whole lock?

Worth knowing, because it changes the price a lot. In most Israeli doors the cylinder (the barrel the key goes into) is a separate part from the lock mechanism in the door.

• Cylinder replacement — needed in perhaps 80% of cases. Fast, and much cheaper. The key changes; the mechanism stays.
• Full lock replacement — only when the mechanism itself is worn or damaged, or you are upgrading to a different security class.

If someone insists on replacing the entire lock without inspecting the mechanism first — get a second opinion. We always tell you which of the two you actually need, and why.

What we install

• Security cylinders (Mul-T-Lock, Rav Bariach, Yale) — anti-bump, anti-drill, anti-pick, with a patented key that cannot be copied at a kiosk.
• Multi-point steel-door locks (pladelet) — the multi-bolt mechanisms standard on Israeli security doors.
• Smart locks — code, fingerprint or phone. A real convenience if you rent out short-term or have children who lose keys.

How the visit goes

• 1. Photo on WhatsApp. The door and the lock from both sides is enough for us to identify the type and quote.
• 2. We arrive with the cylinder already in the van — no second trip to a shop.
• 3. Fitting, typically 20–40 minutes.
• 4. Testing. We check the lock from inside and outside, with the door open and closed, and hand you the full set of keys.

Which cylinder fits: size and the 3 mm rule

Cylinders come in different lengths, and the length has to match the thickness of your door exactly. The size is measured from the central fixing screw in the door edge out to each side, and written as two numbers — for example 30/40. The first number is the outside, so 30/40 and 40/30 are different cylinders.

⚠️ The 3 mm rule. A cylinder that sticks out more than 3 mm past the escutcheon can be gripped with pliers and snapped. That is why we always measure the door on site and fit a cylinder of exactly the right length.

🚪 Door will not close, or you have to lift the handle hard? That is usually not the cylinder — it is the door alignment, the hinges or the multi-point mechanism. A new cylinder will not fix it, so we find the cause first.

What happens to the old keys — and the owner's card

Once the cylinder is changed, the old keys no longer fit — that is the whole point, and you get a new set of keys on the spot. It is also why changing just the cylinder is enough after you lose your keys or move into a new flat.

If you choose a security cylinder that comes with an owner's card (Mul-T-Lock, for example), extra keys can only be cut with that card. Keep it at home, separate from the keys. More in key duplication in Haifa.

One piece of advice for renters

If you rent, changing a cylinder is completely normal and usually costs you nothing in the long run — keep the old cylinder and refit it when you move out. Take thirty seconds to tell the landlord you are doing it; almost nobody objects, and it saves an argument later.
