How to choose a locksmith in Israel — five checks
- 1. Get the price on the phone, in full. Ask: "Is that the final price including the call-out and VAT?" A professional will answer plainly. Anyone who says "we'll see when we get there" is not quoting you — they are anchoring you.
- 2. Be very sceptical of "from ₪50". That advertised number effectively never survives contact with the actual job. Honest pricing is given as a range for a stated job.
- 3. Check they are a real local business. A Google Business Profile with genuine reviews, a website, a phone number that a person answers. Many "locksmith" adverts in Israel are national call centres that resell your job to whoever is nearest.
- 4. Expect to prove the property is yours. A lease, vehicle registration, a bill with your name. If a locksmith does not ask, that should worry you — it means they would open your door for a stranger too.
- 5. Ask whether they can open without damage. For a normal residential door the answer is almost always yes. Drilling should be a last resort, discussed with you first — not the opening move.
